Gerbera daisy plants are unreliable and challenging to propagate from seed, therefore it is better to sow transplants from a flower shop or nursery. Gerbera daisies grow best in soil that is well-drained and has 2 to 3 inches of compost or manure added.

While the plants can endure direct sunshine, early sunlight and afternoon shade are when they thrive. When planting gerberas, make sure the plant’s crown – where the main stem meets the roots – is positioned about 1 inch above the soil’s surface. Since gerberas typically suffocate if the crown is buried, this step is crucial.
